HISTORY

The Xtreme Volleyball Club was formed in the Fall of 1999 by a group of volleyball parents who were looking for a local, affordable, professionally-run volleyball organization that could help their daughters improve as players, teammates and people.  It was also formed to help improve the level of play in the Finger Lakes Region.

This team of parents sought out the help of Kathy and Mark Robinson, the Varsity Volleyball Coaches at Bloomfield CSD, to help provide a strong teaching atmosphere and a professional attitude to their entire coaching staff.  After several months of preparation, the team was able to launch a successful season in November of 1999, supporting one 18 year old team and two 16 year old teams.

The following November, the Bloomfield Varsity volleyball team went on to win the State Tournament and the word spread through the Finger Lakes Region and beyond that there was a successful club based in Bloomfield.  In November of 2000, 112 girls tried out for six teams - two 18 year old teams, three 16 year old teams and one 14 year old team.  The 2001 - 2002 season again yielded six teams: one 18 year old team, three 16 year old teams and two 14 year old teams.

After eight successful USAV seasons, we are beginning our ninth this fall.  The Xtreme Volleyball Club strives to help its players, parents and coaches meet or exceed their individual goals within the framework of a team setting.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

Players are required to be ready to begin practice at the designated start time.  Please allow yourselves enough time to put on knee pads, change shoes and be taped, if needed. Players are expected to assist in practice set up such as setting up and taking down nets, putting away volleyballs and other equipment that may be used that day. Begin practice mentally prepared. Have personal goals for all practices. A good time to think about goals is during warm-up.

If a player must miss a practice, a telephone call to their respective coach is mandatory at least one hour before practice.

Advance notice is mandatory if a player cannot make a practice or tournament due to vacation, family commitment, etc.  Please remember your absenses effect everyone else on your team. Be considerate and inform your coaches with plenty of notice if you can not attend a practice or tournament.

Each practice session is very important to the development of our athletes.  Players need to make every effort to be at every practice so they don't miss too much instruction that could affect their performance at tournaments. Also, coaches prepare practice plans according to who and how many are attending. They need to know in advance if someone will have to miss a practice.

Players are required to wear appropriate shirts and shorts to practice. Players wearing shirts or shorts that are inappropriate will be asked to sit out practice.

Please bring your own plastic water bottle to practice and tournaments.

PLAYING TIME:

Playing time is very important to us as we are sure it is to every player. That is the main reason our teams will have no more than 10 (to 12 with alternates) players. It is important to apply the skills and fundamentals taught in practice in match situations. This allows our coaches to realize which skills the player is proficient at and where more training and improvement can be accomplished.

Your club membership fees go toward practice time and instruction by qualified, experienced VOLUNTEER coaches, NOT playing time in tournaments. XtremeVBC guarantees a ‘fair’ amount of playing time for every player, this does not necessarily mean an ‘equal’ amount. When considering the amount of playing time that you are receiving make sure that the comparison is being made among players that play the same position.

More playing time is earned by regularly being at practice, attending tournaments, working hard to improve, fostering team relationships, demonstrating good sportsmanship, and executing the skills when given the opportunity to play.

Xtreme's Coaches are advised to give everyone fair opportunities to contribute their skills and abilities to the team during pool play matches. When a team advances past pool play, it is the Coaches discretion and decision to reward players that have excelled during pool play with playing time in these final matches.

Remember, Xtreme VBC is about achieving goals and improving in all areas of volleyball, not solely about winning tournaments.

TOURNAMENTS

The location and number of tournaments is set every year by the Tournament Coodinator. Xtreme VBC strives to provide the opportunity for each of our teams to attend 12 tournaments each year. Three of those 12 tournaments will be from the list of 5 "travel tournaments".

Some of the travel tournaments may include:

Bay State in Springfield, MA.
The Southern Tier Classic in Cortland, NY.
Columbus, OH.
Baltimore, MD.
Northeast Regional Championships at Penn State University, PA.

Tournament information is usually available the week prior to the tournament. For the bigger tournaments that require overnight stays, the information is provided earlier. The club's Travel Coodinator will make hotel reservations for teams traveling to out of town tournaments. The hotel rooms are available to reserve at the club's rate through the Travel Coordinator.

Information regarding tournaments and travel accomodations is provided through our team Parent Representatives.

For The Northeast Regional Championships at Penn State, the players are provided accomodations in the University's dorm rooms for the entire weekend. Xtreme VBC relies on volunteer parent chaparones to accompany each team to insure all players are safe and arrive at their designed playing venues. If you are interested in being a chaparone, please talk to your team's parent rep, the Parent Rep Coordinator or a Committee Member.

Xtreme VBC will provide each player with a Tournament Sign-Up Sheet. This is a list of tournaments that we will be attending for the season. The sign-up sheet will have the tournament dates, times, and locations as well as the Tournament Fees associated with each tournament. Each player will have the opportunity to sign up for the tournaments that she can play in.

Once a "YES" is recieved for a tournament, the player is financially obligated for that tournament.

Xtreme VBC understands that individual and family schedules can change, so we do allow a player who has said "NO" to a tournament to change that "NO" to a "YES" with proper notification given to the coach.

HOWEVER, A "YES" CAN NOT BE CHANGED TO A "NO" WITHOUT A HARDSHIP DECISION BY THE COMMITTEE.
